MY ESCAPADE WITH THE NETGEAR R7800
Hi everyone,
Internet has always been, and will always be a magic box but can an Internet's facilitator and enabler be a Magic Box?
Internet has been acting as a gateway to the worldly Affairs and has become a necessity of Life.
Routers have become a facilitator in Wireless Connectivity which helps us to expand the range for our accessibility. I consider myself lucky to witness technology's epicness as I got to try my hands on one such beast called Netgear R7800.
My interaction with the beast was limited initially but it left such an everlasting impact upon me thereby setting a benchmark with its mind blowing features and performance, igniting the lust to use it on a regular basis.
TALKING ABOUT THE CONS FIRST:
👉 Basically there was only one issue which I came across, a bug in scheduling the downtime. This feature usually allows us to save the power by turning off the WI-FI Signals but for some reason while setting it up, i was unable to access it may be due to some software glitches. This issue was reported to be resolved with some software patch floated as an update to the same which I think was a bug specific patch.
Besides the aforementioned issue, i would like to highlight the features which i revere the most:
1) While setting up a Router, that one thing we look forward for is a User Friendly Interface. Defying it's sophisticated looks, the set up was a cake walk! My friend had called me up to set this R7800 for him. But disquietude banished as soon as we plugged it in.
2) Utility idiosyncrasies like ReadyCLOUD, ReadySHARE printer & vault, Open VPN, Guest Network and Device Whitelist/Blacklist, secure remote management and remote access of data. As a surprise package, Support scheduled backups are also offered for our connected devices which I found pretty useful.
3) A couple of USB 3.0 port & a eSATA port which might come pretty handy in the hour of need.
4) That one peculiar feature which every layman wants to discuss upon is Wifi range. My friend who is a hard core gamer had bought R7800 for his three storey bungalow and the first thing we tested was the Range post the setup! Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz bands faired up well in his decent sized bungalow (5000 sqft) and we could get the connectivity even in his garden area, on to the top floor and the Adjacent street outside his bungalow till a reasonable distance so can't really complain about the Range.
5) That one thing which strikes our mind when we hear about technology is Future. Well even that aspect is covered as it Supports the future-proof 160 MHz spatial stream.
6) Other impressive features which R7800 proudly Brags about are DLNA and USB compatibility for wireless media streaming from USB attached external HDD and/or NAS.
Looking at the over all build quality and a glitch free performance(apart from the bug which we encountered while scheduling the downtime but the same was promptly fixed with a patch), this R7800 is certainly my dream device which I would love to own one day and use it on a daily basis.
PS: I dont own this Router but my friend does. My review is based upon My interactions with the Router from the day we unboxed it till date whensoever i visit his house. One of the prime reasons I prefer to keep the gaming sessions at his place is this R7800 which certainly acts as a Lure.
Thank You for stopping by!
